Cholesterol Lowering Effect
Studies have shown that alpha-tocotrienol has the ability to limit the synthesis of Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, commonly termed as the “bad” cholesterol in the liver. [3]
In a 4-week study with gamma- and delta-tocotrienol supplementation, subjects had their total cholesterol reduced by 15-22% and their LDL cholesterol lowered by 10-20%. [4]
Management of High Blood Pressure
Hypertension (elevated blood pressure) can damage the inner lining of the arteries and increase the risk of clogged arteries. In a study involving hypertensive rats, gamma-tocotrienol was shown to successfully reduce blood pressure by stopping the free radical chain reaction. [5]
Tocotrienols’ ability to lower blood pressure has been confirmed in humans. At the end of a 2-month study with tocotrienol-rich vitamin E supplements, subjects showed significant reductions in their blood pressure, as well as an improvement in total antioxidant status. [6] |
